Welcome to Gwisgo Bookworm
Welcome to Gwisgo Bookworm, a wonderful independent bookshop in the delightful Georgian seaside town of Aberaeron. We would love to meet you in person and for you to experience everything that Aberaeron has to offer. However, if you haven’t made it to Cardigan Bay yet, or if you’ve visited us before and you’re missing us, please take a browse through our online selection of new books.
About Us
We are Niki and Karen Brewer, lifelong book and music lovers. The decision we made in 2017 to take on a bookshop, we now realise, was more a lifestyle change than a career move. There’s nothing we like more than meeting people who share our passion. However, the idea that we would no longer need to buy books for ourselves was mistaken! Even with our own bookshop, there are always books that we just have to take home to read and treasure.
Bookshoptime
Gwisgo Bookworm operates on Bookshoptime. Browsers are welcome to spend as much time as they like mooching through our selection of both new books and over 10,000 second hand titles. So often you come in looking for one thing and leave having found something completely different that you are excited to start reading as soon as you get home – or on the bus – or on the beach!
Some people like to browse and others like a helping hand. We love to help you out if required, feel free to ask. Happy to search for old books that we don’t have in stock, we can usually find most things and order them for you.
What else can you find in the shop?
As members of the Booksellers Association we sell and accept National Book Tokens. We also accept Welsh Books Council tokens and gift vouchers for exclusive use at Gwisgo Bookworm are available.
- New fiction in stock ranges from the latest titles in English and Welsh, to classics, local authors and poetry.

We have a highly eclectic selection of vinyl records, both new and second hand. Chosen by Karen who uses the simple principle when ordering of ‘if it doesn’t sell I’m happy to take it home!’ Occasionally she choses one she knows Niki will like too!
We also stock OS maps, walking books, greeting and postcards, notebooks and a selection of leather bags.
Why Gwisgo Bookworm?
Gwisgo – translation: to wear
‘Why Gwisgo?’ we are asked occasionally. For three years Karen owned a vintage clothes shop in Aberaeron Craft Centre that she named Gwisgo. The name stuck when we took over Bookworm in September 2017 and Gwisgo Bookworm was born. The handbags moved with us but sadly there was no room to continue selling vintage clothes. We decided to focus on the new challenge of being booksellers while finding space for Karen’s lifetime passion for vinyl records. You could say that we ‘eat, sleep, breathe and wear’ books!
